Quick answer
Temper six different Level 1 Tarstones for your first six Tarcores
Equip unfinished Tarstones until each reaches 10,000 XP, then use Temper Tarstones at the Tarforge. The Level 1 → 2 upgrade costs 100 Coins and gives one Tarcore. Repeat this on six stones to meet the first Level 3 requirement. GamingBolt GameSpot
The fastest standard Tarcore loop
- 01Fill as many compatible slots as possible with Level 1 Tarstones.
- 02Farm enemy kills until their bars reach 10,000 XP.
- 03Unlock Tempering with the Etching Needles if the Tarforge menu is missing.
- 04Temper each ready stone for 100 Coins and collect one Tarcore.
- 05Swap in more unfinished stones; do not keep farming a capped bar.

What happens after the first Level 3 upgrade?
A Level 3 Temper requires six Tarcores and returns three. After your first max upgrade, you therefore need only three additional Level 1 → 2 Tempers to restore the pool from three back to six. The net cost remains three per maxed stone.
Check the Tarforge if a Tarcore seems missing
Players report that Tarcores produced or returned by Tempering may appear as forge output instead of entering inventory automatically. Inspect the machine and nearby pickup before assuming the reward failed. Reddit player report
Do enemies, vendors, NG+, or Franz provide Tarcores?
The reviewed guides do not document normal-enemy drops or an ordinary repeatable vendor source. Community posts discuss Franz and repeated NG+ cycles, but these are not a better-supported farming method than Level 2 Tempering and may involve broader progression tradeoffs.

Six. You need six Tarcores available before the first Level 3 Temper.
Why did I not receive a Tarcore?
